The route
The stops this trip is built around, in order. Your day-by-day plan, stays and pace come with your free quote.
Start · 180 ft · Kamrup
The gateway to the whole region and worth a day of its own. Kamakhya sits on Nilachal hill above the city, one of the most important Shakta temples in India; Umananda occupies a small island in the Brahmaputra reached by ferry.

262 ft · Golaghat & Nagaon
A World Heritage site holding roughly two-thirds of the world's greater one-horned rhino, along with wild buffalo, swamp deer and one of the densest tiger populations anywhere. The park splits into ranges — Central, Western, Eastern — and each drives differently, which is why one safari is never enough.

5,118 ft · West Kameng
A valley town of apple orchards, kiwi vines and hot springs, with a 500-year-old dzong above the old settlement. Most Tawang itineraries stop here to break the climb, which is also the sensible way to handle the altitude.

13,681 ft · Between Dirang and Tawang
The only road crossing into Tawang, and one of the highest motorable passes in the country. Sela Lake sits frozen beside it for much of the winter. Jaswant Garh, the memorial to a soldier who held this ground alone in 1962, is a short drive below on the Tawang side.

10,000 ft · Tawang district
The monastery here was founded in the 1680s and remains the largest in India and the second largest in the world, holding an eight-metre gilded Buddha and a library of manuscripts. The town below it sits in a bowl of ridges that hold snow well into April.

4,908 ft · East Khasi Hills
The state capital and the region's music town, where a café on Laitumkhrah is as likely to have a live set as a coffee menu. Ward's Lake and the Don Bosco museum sit in the centre; Umiam Lake spreads out on the drive in from Guwahati.

328 ft · West Jaintia Hills
In the dry months the Umngot runs clear enough that a boat appears to float above its own shadow on the riverbed. The Bangladesh border is a few hundred metres downstream, and the plain beyond it opens out flat to the horizon.

“They don't just plan trips; they take ownership of your experience. Most importantly, they listen, they care, and they go the extra mile when it matters the most.
Our recent 8-day journey through Arunachal Pradesh and Northeast India was a truly memorable experience, and a large part of the credit goes to Akash and the entire Ela Tripo team.
What impressed me most was not just the itinerary they curated, but the level of personal attention, responsiveness, and genuine care they demonstrated throughout the planning and execution of the trip.
Our travel planning itself was far from straightforward. Initially, we were considering Arunachal Pradesh, then there were discussions about our children joining us, which led us to explore alternate destinations in South India. Plans changed multiple times, dates shifted, and there was considerable back and forth before we finally decided to proceed with the original Arunachal itinerary.
During this period, I had spoken with several travel agencies, including larger players and local Northeast operators. However, Akash stood out from the very first conversation. He came across as knowledgeable, reassuring, friendly, and deeply familiar with the terrain and travel realities of the region.
Unfortunately, due to a communication gap from both sides and our own busy schedules, there was a delay in finalizing the arrangements. By the time we confirmed, we were barely a week away from departure, and many of the hotels and properties we had originally discussed had already sold out because of the unusually high tourist rush this season.
This is where Akash and his team truly demonstrated their commitment. Rather than giving up on the plan, they worked tirelessly to find alternatives. We explored multiple options, routes, and property combinations. At one stage, Akash even suggested redesigning part of the itinerary through Shillong and Cherrapunji to ensure a better overall experience. Right until a few days before departure, he was actively coordinating accommodations and refining the plan to make everything work.
From the moment we landed, the team remained consistently available and supportive. While a few hotel arrangements were understandably different from what we had originally envisioned, the way the team handled every situation made all the difference.
One thing that stood out was their flexibility. We made last-minute changes during the trip, including changing our overnight stay plans and deciding to visit Kaziranga instead. The team immediately stepped in, reorganized the arrangements, and ensured everything went smoothly.
What truly distinguishes Ela Tripo is the personal touch. Almost every day, Akash would call just to check on us, understand how the day had gone, and ensure everything was on track. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that he was regularly coordinating with hotel staff and our driver, briefing them about our preferences and ensuring that our comfort was being looked after.
Despite the heavy tourist rush and the logistical challenges that come with travelling in remote mountain regions, the team remained calm, responsive, and solution-oriented throughout.
In an era where many travel operators simply process bookings, Ela Trippo delivers something much more valuable: they listen, they care, and they genuinely invest themselves in creating a positive experience for their guests.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Ela Tripo to anyone planning a trip to Northeast India. If you're looking for a team that combines local expertise with warmth, flexibility, responsiveness, and genuine customer care, you can trust them completely.
Thank you, Akash and the entire Ela Tripo team, for helping us create memories that will stay with us for a lifetime.”
