What we collect, why we need it, who we are obliged to share it with to get you across a permit line, and how to have it deleted.

elatripo.com and our trips

The short version

  • We collect what you give us when you enquire or book — nothing is gathered behind your back.
  • Permits for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland require submitting your identity documents to state authorities. That is the law, not our preference, and we send only what each application needs.
  • The site carries Google's advertising tag, which sets cookies so we can tell whether our ads are worth running. There is no analytics package and no other tracker.
  • We never sell your information, and we never pass your name, email, phone number or documents to an advertiser.
  • You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it — and we will, unless tax law obliges us to keep it.

This summary is here to be read. It is not a substitute for the full text below, which is what actually applies.

01

Who we are

Ela Tripo is a tour operator working across North-East India — principally Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam and Nagaland. This policy covers the website at elatripo.com and everything we do with your information when you enquire about a trip or travel with us.

We decide what happens to the information described here, which makes us responsible for it. If you want something changed or deleted, the people in section 10 are the right people to ask.

02

What we collect

We only ever have what you give us. There is no account to create on this site and no form that collects data in the background.

When you enquire
Your name, phone number, WhatsApp number, email address, and whatever you tell us about the trip — where you want to go, rough dates, how many of you there are.
When you book
Billing details, the names and ages of everyone travelling, and payment references. We do not see or store your card or UPI credentials — those stay with the bank or payment provider.
For permits and check-ins
Government photo identity documents and passport-size photographs for each traveller, and for foreign nationals, passport and visa details. Section 4 explains why this is unavoidable here.
Health information, if you choose to share it
Several of our routes cross passes above 4,000 m. If you tell us about a heart or lung condition, a pregnancy, a mobility need or an allergy, we use it to plan the trip safely and to brief the driver and guide. You are not obliged to tell us, but section 9 of our Terms of Service explains why it is in your interest.

03

Why we collect it

We use what you give us to:

  • answer your enquiry and build you an itinerary and a quote;
  • apply for the Inner Line Permits or Protected Area Permits your route requires;
  • book the hotels, homestays, vehicles, guides and park entries on your itinerary;
  • reach you before and during the trip about pickups, road conditions, weather and changes;
  • raise invoices and keep the accounting and tax records we are required by law to keep;
  • reach your emergency contact, or a hospital, if something goes wrong on the road.

We do not sell your information or rent it, and we never hand your name, email, phone number or documents to an advertiser. We do not add you to a marketing list because you once asked a question.

The site does carry Google’s advertising tag, described under “What this website does” below. It lets us tell whether an advertisement was worth running, and it lets Google show you our ads again elsewhere. It never receives anything you type into an enquiry.

04

Permits, and what the government sees

This section matters more here than it would for most travel companies, so it gets its own heading.

Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland restrict entry. Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit; foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit, and some border sectors need clearances beyond that. Applying means submitting your identity documents, photographs and travel dates to the relevant state authority. There is no way to obtain a permit without doing this, and we cannot take you on those routes without a permit.

Separately, hotels and homestays are required to register guests, and accommodations hosting foreign nationals must file a Form C with the authorities. Protected areas such as Kaziranga and Manas keep their own entry registers. Where the law requires disclosure — to police, to a court, or to a government department acting within its powers — we comply.

We send only what a given application actually requires, and we tell you which documents we need and what for before we ask for them.

05

Who else sees it

Running a trip means other people have to know you are coming. We share the minimum needed, and only with:

  • State permit authorities — as described above.
  • Hotels, homestays and camps — guest names, dates, and any dietary or accessibility need relevant to your stay.
  • Transport operators, drivers and guides — names, pickup details, a contact number, and any health information you have asked us to pass on.
  • Airlines and park authorities — where your itinerary includes a flight, a safari or a permit-controlled entry.
  • Banks and payment providers — to take payment and issue refunds.
  • Our accountant and auditors — for statutory records.

These partners get your details for the purpose of your trip. They are not permitted to use them for anything else.

06

WhatsApp, phone and email

Most of our conversations happen on WhatsApp, because it is what works on the ground here. When you message us, that conversation — including any photographs or documents you send — sits in WhatsApp on our phone and on yours, under Meta's own terms and privacy policy, which we do not control.

If you would rather not send identity documents over WhatsApp, email them to contact.elatripo@gmail.com instead, or tell us and we will arrange another way. Once a permit is issued, ask us and we will delete the copies from the chat.

07

What this website does — and does not do

The site runs one third-party tag, and it is Google’s advertising tag. It tells us when somebody who arrived from one of our advertisements went on to enquire, which is the only way we can judge whether the advertisement paid for itself. It sets cookies in your browser, and Google may use them to show you our advertisements on other sites.

Beyond that the site stays plain. There is no analytics package watching where you click, no other pixel, and no social-media tracker. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than a third party, so reading a page does not announce your visit to anyone else.

Like any website, ours is served by a hosting provider that keeps short-lived technical logs — IP address, browser type, which page was requested — for security and diagnostics. We do not use those logs to identify individual readers.

Where a page embeds a video, it uses YouTube's no-cookie player, which does not set tracking cookies unless you press play. Links to WhatsApp, your dialler or your mail client hand you over to those services, which then apply their own terms.

If you would rather not be measured that way, any standard ad blocker stops the Google tag, as does blocking cookies for googletagmanager.com. Nothing on this site needs it in order to work, and we cannot tell who has switched it off.

08

Photographs from your trip

We sometimes ask travellers whether we may use a photograph of them, or a review they have written, on this site or on social media. We ask first, every time, and no is a perfectly good answer — it changes nothing about your trip.

If you said yes and have since changed your mind, tell us and we will take it down. Material already printed or shared onward by others may take longer to disappear, but we will stop using it.

09

How long we keep it

Enquiries that did not become bookings
Kept while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period after, in case you come back to it. Ask and we will delete it sooner.
Identity documents and permit paperwork
Kept until the permit is issued and the trip is over, then deleted — except where a permit authority requires us to retain a copy.
Booking, invoice and payment records
Kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them. We cannot delete these on request while that period runs.
Health information
Kept only for the duration of the trip, then deleted.

10

Your rights, and how to use them

You can ask us at any time to:

  • tell you what information about you we hold, and why;
  • correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
  • delete what we hold, where we are not legally required to keep it;
  • withdraw a consent you gave us — for a photograph, for example, or for messages about future departures;
  • nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you are unable to.

Write to contact.elatripo@gmail.com with the request. We will confirm receipt and deal with it promptly, and we will tell you plainly if there is something we cannot delete and why.

If we have not handled a request properly, say so on the same address and we will look at it again. You also retain whatever right of complaint the applicable data protection law gives you.

11

Keeping it safe

Access to booking records and identity documents is limited to the people running your trip. Devices are passcode-locked, and we delete permit documents once they have done their job rather than letting them accumulate.

No one can honestly promise perfect security, and we are not going to. What we can say is that we hold as little as possible, for as short a time as possible, and that if something did go wrong in a way that affected you, we would tell you.

12

Children

Bookings are made by adults. Children travel with a parent or guardian, who provides their details and consents on their behalf. We do not knowingly collect information directly from a child.

13

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version goes up on this page with a new date at the top. If a change materially affects a trip you have already booked, we will tell you directly rather than expecting you to notice it here.

Anything unclear

Ask us before you book, not after

If any part of this affects your trip and you would rather have it in plain words, call or write. We would far rather explain it now.
