Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Guwahati to Sangti Valley

Out of Guwahati and up into the hills, ending the day in Sangti Valley. Starting the climb from 1,500 m rather than from the plains is what keeps the second day comfortable.

  2. Day 2

Sangti Valley to Tawang, over Sela

The long day. Up through Dirang and over Sela Pass at 13,681 ft, past Jaswant Garh, and down the far side into Tawang.

  3. Day 3

    Tawang, and the Bumla excursion

Up to Bumla Pass on the India–China trijunction at 15,200 ft — a separate army permit, which we file before you fly.

Back down into Tawang for the night.

  4. Day 4

Tawang to Chug Valley, Rama Camp or Dirang

Back over Sela and down the far side. Which of the three you stay in is confirmed with your batch.

  5. Day 5

    On to Bomdila or Shergaon

A shorter day down the valley to Bomdila or Shergaon, and the last night in the hills.

  6. Day 6

    Down to Guwahati, and drop-off

The run back down to Guwahati, and drop-off.
